48 Hours in Houston: The Perfect Itinerary
Houston Events | Find Festivals, Exhibits, Shows, Concerts & Food
Free Rice University Not many tourist attractions are actually worthy, but this totally rad light and sound installation definitely is. Free Museum District From March through November, the open-air Miller Outdoor Theatre puts on lively stage productions -- think live jazz, ballet, and musical theater -- that are absolutely cool and absolutely free. Free Montrose True story: when the Waugh Bridge was built, no one realized it was the perfect structure to host a whole bunch of Mexican free-tailed bats. Head to the viewing platform and you may just catch a bat show, which never fails to both fascinate and creep the hell out of visitors. With concrete columns soaring 25 feet and 87, square feet of open space, the cavernous structure is reminiscent of ancient Roman cisterns in Istanbul. In EaDo, 8th Wonder Brewery rocks a sprawling backyard, on-site food truck and a seven-day-a-week taproom.
Things to Do in Houston
If you are looking for culture, dining, shopping, unique attractions, and fun experiences, you'll find no shortage of things to do in Houston. This is the fourth largest city in the United States and home to the famous Space Center Houston, renowned chefs, inspiring museums, and beautiful green spaces, complete with a bayou running through the heart of the city. Depending on your travel dates, you may even be able to take in a sports game or enjoy Houston's signature event, the Livestock Show and Rodeo. Houston makes a great destination for a weekend getaway, with direct flights from all over North America.
This past weekend the Johnny Steele Dog Park had its grand opening at the corner of Allen Parkway and Montrose after months of renovations to turn it into a doggie oasis. While the Houston Chronicle was on the grounds watching man and beast explore the amenities, we learned that dog parks are a hot singles spot in Houston. If they attack each other, maybe take a step back.
